The list, finalized by the BJP Central Election Committee, underlines the party’s intent to rely on a blend of seasoned veterans and fresh faces while retaining key incumbents.
Deputy CMs Lead the Charge
The most prominent feature of the first list is the re-fielding of both Deputy Chief Ministers:
Samrat Chaudhary has been nominated to contest from the Tarapur Assembly constituency.
Vijay Kumar Sinha will seek re-election from his traditional seat of Lakhisarai.
Several key ministers and senior leaders have also been given tickets, signaling the party's confidence in its current legislative guard. These include:
Minister Mangal Pandey, who shifts to direct electoral politics, contesting from Siwan.
Minister Renu Devi from Bettiah.
Minister Nitin Nabin from Bankipur.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad from Katihar.
Former Union Minister Ramkripal Yadav from Danapur.
Senior leader Prem Kumar from Gaya Town.
Arjuna awardee and sitting MLA Shreyasi Singh will contest again from Jamui.
Strategic Replacements and NDA Alignment
The list also featured some notable strategic adjustments. The party opted to drop Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, a veteran leader, from the Patna Sahib seat, instead fielding Ratnesh Kushwaha from the constituency. The list of 71 candidates also includes nine women, reinforcing the party’s outreach to female voters.
The release of the list follows the finalization of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seat-sharing formula. As per the arrangement, the BJP and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) will contest 101 seats each in the 243-member Assembly. Key allies Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJP (Ram Vilas)) has been allotted 29 seats, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAM(S)) will contest six seats each.
Political Developments and Opposition Challenge
In a separate but related development that provided a morale boost to the party, folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Patna on Tuesday.
With its first list released, the NDA is now prepared to challenge the opposition INDIA bloc, which is led in the state by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav. The opposition alliance includes the Congress and various left parties like the CPI (ML), CPI, and CPM. The upcoming election is also expected to feature the political debut of the Jan Suraaj party, led by political strategist Prashant Kishor.
