Chandranath Rath, a close aide and personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was allegedly shot dead in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday evening. According to reports, unidentified assailants opened fire at close range in the Madhyamgram area, following which Rath was rushed to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident has triggered political outrage and renewed concerns over political violence in the state.
The killing has once again brought West Bengal’s law-and-order situation under scrutiny, particularly amid the continuing political rivalry between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
