Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the Jharkhand High Court's new data centre in Ranchi on Monday, marking a significant advancement in the digital infrastructure of the state's judiciary. The facility, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore, is the first of its kind in Jharkhand and is designed to strengthen the technological foundation of the High Court as well as the subordinate courts across the state.
What features define the new Jharkhand High Court data centre?
The data centre provides centralised storage, advanced backup systems, network security, fire protection, and uninterrupted power supply. It supports critical digital services including the Case Information System, Document Management System, electronic judicial records, video conferencing, and other e-governance initiatives under the e-Courts Mission Mode Project.
Justice Ananda Sen, Chairperson of the High Court's Computer and Digitisation Committee, stated that the facility would improve system reliability, preserve digital records, and ensure secure access to judicial information for judges, advocates, court officials, and litigants. The initiative aligns with the broader objective of modernising judicial administration through technology.
Digital services launched alongside the data centre
During the same function, the Chief Justice of India launched the High Court's new official website, an iOS application for the High Court and district courts, and an online portal for obtaining certified copies of court documents and orders. Justice Sen highlighted that the digitisation initiative includes a personalised cause list for advocates and litigants, enabling them to track cases conveniently on their devices.
Bar Council member and advocate Nilesh Agarwal observed that the centre would assist people seeking legal remedies by providing access to reliable information, improving transparency, and facilitating speedy justice. A senior judicial officer indicated that the CJI would also oversee the distribution of a speech-to-text tool and Artificial Intelligence software to judicial officers across the state. These tools are expected to enhance the efficiency of judicial officers in discharging their duties.
