The President of India has nominated Supreme Court Judge Justice Vikram Nath as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), effective November 24, 2025. The official notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, using powers granted under Section 3(2)(b) of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
As per tradition, the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court is selected for the role of NALSA Executive Chairman. Justice Vikram Nath’s nomination continues this convention, strengthening NALSA’s commitment to ensuring legal services and justice for all citizens.
This nomination is regarded as a significant step in the ongoing effort to make legal aid more accessible throughout India.
