The Supreme Court dismissed a petition by a retired professor of the National Institute of Rural Development seeking retrospective coverage under the General Provident Fund Scheme instead of the Central Provident Fund Scheme, holding that acceptance of benefits under the latter scheme and failure to challenge regularisation terms precluded relief.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by a retired professor of the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) seeking to be covered under the General Provident Fund-cum-Pension Scheme (GPF Scheme) instead of the Central Provident Fund Scheme (CPF Scheme). The bench, comprising Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Atul S Chandurkar, held that the petitioner could not raise the grievance after retirement having already accepted benefits under the CPF Scheme and never having challenged the terms of his regularisation.
