Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai Assumes SCBA Presidency
Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai has been elected as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the 2026-27 term. Mr. Rai will succeed Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, who held the presidency for the 2025-26 term. The election results also confirmed the appointment of other key office bearers, with Senior Advocate Rahul Kaushik elected as Vice President and Advocate Pragya Baghel as Secretary. Advocate Muneesh Dubey secured the position of Joint Secretary, while Advocate Reepak Kansal was elected Treasurer.
The election saw Mr. Rai garner a substantial mandate, securing 822 votes. His closest competitor, Senior Advocate Anupam Lal Dass, received 451 votes. Other candidates for the presidential post included Senior Advocate Aadish Agarwalla, who obtained 412 votes, Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia with 370 votes, Senior Advocate Sukumar Pattjoshi with 269 votes, Senior Advocate Siddharth Mridul with 217 votes, and Senior Advocate Mahalakshmi Pavani, who received 128 votes. Rai's Electoral Platform and Past Contributions
During the pre-poll presidential debate, Mr. Rai articulated a platform focused on significant reforms and welfare measures for advocates. He advocated for the abolition of the sequencing system at the Supreme Court, a proposal aimed at streamlining court procedures. Furthermore, Mr. Rai committed to enhancing welfare provisions for advocates, including a promise to implement a medical security cover of up to Rs. 50 lakhs. He also pledged to introduce merit-based scholarships for the children of SCBA members, underscoring his commitment to the professional and personal well-being of the bar's members.
Mr. Rai brings considerable experience to his new role, having previously served as the SCBA Vice President for two consecutive terms, from 2021-22 and 2022-23. His prior engagement with the SCBA leadership positions provided him with an intimate understanding of the association's functioning and the needs of its members. This was not Mr. Rai's first attempt at the SCBA presidency; he had contested for the post in the preceding year alongside Senior Advocate Adish Aggarwala, where they were ultimately defeated by Senior Advocate Vikas Singh.
